Fishing In The Gulf of Thailand

Fishing In The Gulf of Thailand

The Gulf of Thailand provides clam seas at nearly all times of the year as it is well protected from the monsoons of the area, which is favorable for virtually year round deep sea fishing opportunities. However, the seasons do affect the temperature of the gulf’s waters and this causes fish to search for cooler waters outside of the gulf in the summer and that leaves the months from October to March as the best for chances of making a large catch.

The waters off the coast of Pattaya offer some of the deeper waters and a wide variety of game. Those who have fished the area encounter an array of sea life ranging from rays to sharks, and a variety of fish. The waters are often home to fish such as barracuda, tuna, King Mackerel, Snappers, Jacks, and the lucky few catch a Marlin or sailfish while out on the water and get to go home with a great story to tell their friends.

For those that fish on the Gulf of Thailand waters but have previous experience fishing large bodies of water or even smaller lakes back home, they’ll soon find that trolling is not the most productive method for successfully fishing the area, and instead it is better to rely on the expert knowledge of an experienced fishing boat captain that has been sailing the waters for years. To lure the fish to your hook and line, the use of live bait is recommended, especially the fish that in Thai are called “Pla Dang” or live squid as tempting live bait.

One thing for those that are looking to fish in the Gulf of Thailand, the area is facing the same difficulties of many other water bodies around the world. Due to decades of overfishing, the chance of reeling in giant catches that have been seen in images of the 80’s and 90’s from previous expeditions have become significantly diminished. However, that does not mean that the area is void of fish and can’t provide a great experience.

Pattaya Yacht Charters has four fishing boats available for charter and captains that are veterans of sailing the Gulf of Thailand who know where to go for the best chance of making a healthy catch on the open and calm seas of the Gulf of Thailand. Overall, fishing the Gulf of Thailand is a relaxing experience with likely moments of excitement and the chance to create great memories on the sea with friends or family.
